Scope and General Information
Original manuscripts (research articles, reviews, technical reports, case presentations, commentaries) not published elsewhere, on biochemistry, chemical pathology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, bioengineering and disciplinary education are to be published in the journal.
|
Ethical principles must be considered in preparation and publication of the manuscripts.
Authors should clearly declare any conflict of interest related to the subject.
All the articles are peer reviewed by at least two referees. Scientific Board Members and the members of the Turkish Biochemical Society who are experts in the area of interest are potential referees. If required, nonmember colleagues, or experts from other scientific disciplines are also consulted. The names of the authors are not let known to the referees. Editorial Board takes care not to start a conflict of interest in assigning the referees.
Articles and any other printed material published in the Turkish Journal of Biochemistry represent the opinions of authors and should not be construed to reflect the ideas of the Editor(s) or the Executive Committee of the Turkish Biochemical Society.

Language
Manuscripts written either in English or Turkish may be submitted. The title, summary and keywords are to be provided in both languages (*). Names of the chemical or organic substances should follow the recommendations of the IUPAC-IUBMB Joint Combined Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (JCBN). Abstract should not contain any abbreviations and should be given in parenthesis following its first appearance in the text. All abbreviations should be in the internationally recognized format.
|

Manuscript preparation
|
Manuscripts should be written double space on A4 sized typing paper with 1 cm right margin and 3 cm other margins. A single printed copy and an electronic copy on CD should be provided in case it is not technically possible to submit online.

Title page
|
This page should contain the following: Title in English and Turkish, type of the manuscript, names of institutions each author is affiliated with. Corresponding author’s full name, title, institution, telephone & fax number, and e-mail address. Title should clearly reflect the content of the manuscript and should not exceed 15 words.

Abstract(s)
|
The Turkish and English abstract should consist of 180- 220 words and state the rationale, objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions of the study (*).

Keywords
After abstract, 3-8 keywords should be supplied in both languages (*). It is of prime importance that the keywords should be in accordance with MeSH. This keyword divergence may be reached through Pub Med’s main page.

Units
|
Numerical data must be reported in SI units. For enzyme activity katal or International Unit can be used.

Tables
Tables should be typed on separate pages, and numbered consecutively with Arab numerals in order of mention in the text. Each table should have a brief explanatory title on top. Footnotes may be inserted when necessary.

Figures
Figures are numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text. The legends and their corresponding figure should be typed on the same sheet. The illustrations should be sharp enough to be processed with laser printer. Colored photographs are accepted for inclusion only in the electronic version of the journal.
|

References
References should be listed in numerical order at the end of the article according to the order of http://www.TurkJBiochem.com ISSN 1303–829X (electronic) 0250–4685 (printed) 55 citation in the text. Abbreviate the names of the journals according to Index Medicus, which you can find at http://www.nim.nih.gov/tsd/serial/lji.html. Only articles that have been published or are in press (please attach the letter of acceptance) should be included.

Manuscript Categories
Research articles
Manuscripts submitted as regular articles should report original information, be concise, well organized and not exceed15 pages. They should consist of a title page, abstract(s), keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and references.

Review articles
Highly focused review articles written by experts having done research on the relevant subject will be considered for publication. These manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages containing title page, abstract (s), key words, contents, introduction, main divisions under headings written in capital letters, subdivisions under headings written in small letters and numbered consecutively, conclusion and appropriate references to the literature. The use of tables and figures to summarize critical points is encouraged.

Technical reports
Perspectives on existing laboratory techniques and new methodologies are considered for inclusion in this category. These manuscripts should be composed of title page, abstract(s) and key words, introduction which includes main aspects of the method involved, materials and methods, conclusion and references. Method section should include sample values and in manuscripts dealing with clinical data normal values should be given and clinical importance of variations should be discussed.

Case presentations
Manuscripts documenting informative patient presentations on clinical pathology will be considered for publication in this category. Case presentations should consist of title page, abstract(s), keywords, introduction, patients and methods, results, discussion and references.

Comments
Comments on the area of interest of the Journal are published on this section. Commentaries are reviewed by the Editorial Board for suitability. Comments on published articles are also welcome and will be published if appropriate. Letters to the editor are screened and may be subjected to rebuttal by the authors of the initial article.

Submitting
One printed copy and a disc record of the manuscript, letter of approval, approval of the Ethical Committee (if required) should be sent to the address of the Journal. If previously published material is used in the manuscript, permission received from the publishers must also be included.

Letter of approval
The manuscript should be accompanied by a cover letter indicating that: (a) All co-authors have agreed to submit the manuscript to the journal, (b) The findings have not been published elsewhere; (c) The manuscript is not currently under consideration by another journal. Written consent form is found at http://www.turkjbiochem.com/downloads/Author_Approval.doc

Ethical principles for in vivo research involving human and animal subjects
All manuscripts reporting studies that involve human or animal subjects must be accompanied by a letter of approval obtained from the Ethical Committee of the institution where the work is accomplished. Editorial Board reserves the right to ask similar reports for in vitro studies. |

Preparation of the soft copy
Text must be saved as an independent MS Word format (Word 98 or higher version) and must be titled with the name of the corresponding author (e.g. ozer.doc). Figures and tables must be saved either as an individual file or given at the end of the main manuscript with the corresponding figure and table numbers and legends on the same page. Figures must be at their original size and saved as JPEG or TIFF file with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. In the cases where whole documentation exceeds 1.4 MB, the contents must be sent on a CD to the journal mail address. Turkish characters should not be used in the names of the documents. Avoid using MS Power Point for text, tables and figures. The manuscript name, corresponding author, the file names and the programs used in preparation of the manuscripts should be named on the CD label.
